Reception cards are a traditional way to convey information about the festivities occuring after the wedding ceremony. They are most commonly used for religiously-based ceremonies that take place in a place of worship with the reception taking place at a separate location afterward. If your reception venue is well known, you can omit the street address — but if you think some of your guests might have trouble finding the venue, be sure to include it. In any case, leave the zip code off of the reception card — the only card a zip code should be listed on is a direction or accommodations card.

It’s most formal and traditional to keep your invitation free from website addresses, so a website card is a great way to communicate your wedding website while still staying true to traditional etiquette advice. The wedding website typically gives guests details about the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception and provides directions, hotel accommodations and transportation information. These cards are usually small and sweet — typically 3.5 x 2.5 and fit one line of text with website.

Event cards can list the festivities surrounding your wedding weekend, such as welcome cocktails, after-parties, and morning after brunches. If you’re planning a destination wedding, events cards are a great way to provide information to your guests about area attractions.
If your guests are coming from out of town be sure to include the street address and city for each venue, especially if they are in a different city than your wedding. If all of your events are taking place at the same location (a resort in Hawaii, for example) then you won’t need to be as detailed – just listing the times and specific locations will be adequate. ETIQUETTE: Should I use an inner envelope?
More traditional and formal invitations tend to use an inner and outer envelope. The outer envelope will get marked en route but the inner envelope will remain pristine for the most special kind of invitation.
If lining your envelopes, we do recommend using an inner and outer envelope combination. If you only use an outer envelope, and that envelope is lined, guests tend to tear the envelope open and miss the beautiful envelope lining. Our invitation suite envelopes have a beautifully snug inner and outer envelope.
Although in most cases, it really depends on what you and your family prefer, the inner envelope does serve a purpose. The inner envelope tells guests exactly who is or — by omission, is not — invited to the wedding. While the outer envelope might say “Mr. and Mrs. David R. Hale,” the inner envelope (which uses a more abbreviated form of address) might read, “Mr. and Mrs. Hale/Sara and Ross [or Sara Hale/Ross Hale],” indicating that the kids are also invited. If the Hales had any additional children who weren’t listed — usually younger children –it would mean that only the older ones were invited. Should Mr. and Mrs. Hale’s names appear alone on the inner envelope, then none of the kids are invited. The inner envelope also offers the most gracious way to indicate that a guest may bring a plus-one (written “and Guest” if the name isn’t known).
